5 Ways to Become More Spiritual

Being spiritual is something I learned at a young age. My parents have always stressed the importance of positivity, meditation, self-love, and self-reflection, among dozens of other things. Because of this, I have grown to be a wiser person and it has helped me accept and cope with the crazy things life tends to throw at me.

I am extremely passionate about sharing my spirituality with others and teaching people how they can better their lives by becoming more spiritual. So if you aren't too familiar with this, and if spirituality seems a little foreign to you (which is totally OK), I am here to coach you through it and show you how you can become a more spiritual individual.

Learn to love yourself

One of the biggest parts of being spiritual is loving yourself. I truly cannot express this enough. You cannot start a journey of being spiritual until you figure out how to love yourself. For me, loving myself means treating my body with respect, not being too hard on myself, doing the things that I love, and only talking about myself in a positive way. The best way to start loving yourself is to stop speaking about yourself negatively whether it is inside your own head or out loud. Once you cut out negative self-talk, a lot of the other aspects come with it.

Find a quote or mantra to live by

When times get tough, I always think of my personal quote (which you can find written all over my website) and I repeat it over and over in my head. This helps me remember who I am and that I am on this earth for a reason. I am able to deal with whatever obstacle is thrown at me because I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and my quote helps me remember that.

Be kind to others

It might seem cliche, but another aspect to spirituality is kind of like the golden rule. Try your best to be kind to other people, whether that means helping a friend with a simple task, volunteering at a local soup kitchen, or even giving a stranger a compliment. These all qualify as acts of kindness, and the more kind you are, the better your life will be.

Meditate

Not everyone is able to just lay down and meditate, but luckily, there are tons of other ways to center yourself that don't include just laying there. Yoga is a great form of meditation that many people really love, and even acupuncture is a practice that is really helpful for relaxation. If these things aren't for you, there are also much simpler ways to relax. For me, laying in bed, shutting my eyes, and focusing on my breathing for just 10 minutes a day is the easiest way to meditate and find my balance.

Believe in something

There are tons of misconceptions when it comes to spirituality and religion. You do not need to practice a specific religion to be spiritual at all. With that said, I think in order to be at peace with life and the sometimes unfortunate or unfair things that happen, you need to believe in something. It does not have to be a god, but can simply be that "everything happens for a reason" or "everything will work out in the end". If you don't believe that there is some higher power that has a plan for all of us, it is much harder to be able to really understand or manage life's occurrences.
